Andrew Schmitt has a very informative post on the competitors in the GPON chip space, now that a non-startup chip vendor AMCC has introduced a GPON product. According to Andrew, unless you’re Broadlight (supplier to Motorola and Tellabs) or Freescale (supplier to Alcatel) your GPON chip business is going to be very limited in the next 2 years since Motorola, Tellabs and Alcatel are 3 of the finalists for the GPON RFP from the US incumbents. This leaves Hitachi Telecom, (the fourth finalist) and Optical Solutions/Calix (leading GPON supplier to rural telcos) as the other potential chip customers of note. Unless I’m mistaken, both currently use in-house chip designs. Filed under: Business Comments: No Comments »No comments yet. RSS feed for comments on this post.
