The massive Verizon Fios FTTP installation project has caused numerous headaches for utility companies and residents. This is not unusual for a project this size but its worth keeping track of for the lessons learned. This article details the plight of a Vienna, Virginia family whose electrical main short was caused by mismarked power lines. UtiliQuest, the company that was responsible for marking the power lines was the responsible party and its insurance company paid the claim. Here’s some more stats from the article:
"According to officials with regional utility companies, Verizon workers
have hit water pipes 76 times in the past year in Montgomery and Prince
George’s counties. They have hit Washington Gas lines 288 times in
Maryland and Virginia and hit Columbia Gas lines 27 times in parts of
Virginia. Pepco and Dominion Virginia Power confirm their lines have
been hit, sometimes causing power outages. Local governments have been
collecting complaints from residents concerned about ruined lawns,
wrecked sprinkler systems and torn-up driveways."
Fios working fine. Problem with RF noise from the battery back-up power supply. Gives considerable noise (buzz) on the AM bands from broadcast up thru 7 MHZ. Does Verizon know of this problem and do they have a solution??
